SARDINIA HOLIDAYS > ITALY
1,800km of coastline, much of it utterly unspoilt and fringed by white sand beaches lapped by crystal clear waters of every shade from deep aquamarine to shimmering
turquoise and emerald green. Probably its only claim to fame, apart from giving its name to tins of small fish, is the Costa Smerelda, built by the Aga Khan as a playground for the rich and without
doubt pristinely beautiful, but perhaps slightly too perfect and a touch synthetic and out of context with the real Sardinia beyond its confines.

A little less than 120 miles from the Italian mainland, covering an area of 9,300 square miles, your reasons for
visiting Sardinia would be its sparkling white sandy beaches and pristine waters. Although, not known for its
cultural riches, this island holds some remains of various civilisations that passed through here.
The island of Sardinia enjoys soft sandy beaches and some of the clearest waters in the Mediterranean,
combined with a mountainous and wooded interior. The rugged terrain and unhurried pace offer a perfect
base for a relaxing beach holiday. D.H. Lawrence once wrote that Sardinia was 'left outside of time and history', indeed traditions.

History of Sardinia
In Prehistory Sardinia's inhabitants developed a trade in obsidian, a stone used for the production of the first
rough tools, and this activity brought Sardinians into contact with most of the Mediterranean people.
Desiccated grapes, recently found in several locations, were DNA tested and proved to be the oldest grapes
in the world, dating back to the Pyramids' and Mesopotamian's era. The Cannonau wine is made with these grapes and may qualify as the mother of all the European wines. See for more Wikipedia
