Corsica is a very mountainous island : the highest peak, Monte Cinto, reaches a height of 2 710 m high, and there are 50 other peaks above an elevation of 2 000 m high. The island average elevation is 568 m and its peaks look over more than1 000 km of shores. The west coast faces strong winds, and the most of it is made of deep and dazzling gulfs. The East shore is filled by the long and flat shore of the Aleria plain, the oriental plain. Corsica is a very mountainous island, the Monte Cinto highest peak reached an elevation of 710 m, and there is 50 other peaks above an elevation of 2 000 m.

The west coast faces strong winds, and the most of it is made of deep and dazzling gulfs. The East shore is filled by the long and flat shore of the Aleria plain, the oriental plain.

Vegetation is equally composed of forest and maquis (typical Corsican scrubland) and covers half of the territory. There are numerous water sources : lakes and rivers have given Corsica its surname of green island.
Erosion has created steep canyons and valleys and the deformed peaks are often fascinating landscapes.

The Greeks already called it "Kalliste", the most beautiful. Corsica is in this way a true anthology of all the world's greatest.

History Corsica

Corsica has a complex history. This history is apparent in the anthropomorphic menhirs of Filitosa and the Castelli of Alta Rocca, and in the Genoese citadels on the coast, the churches of Castagniccia with their rich Baroque décors and also in the island's ancient remains.

  History of Corsica

Napoleon Bonaparte   -   Wikipedia : Napoleon I of France
The house in Ajaccio in which Napoleon I was born in 1769 is preserved, and his associations with the town are everywhere emphasized by street-names and statues.

Life of Napoleon Bonaparte: Emperor of France   -   J.G. Lockhart
By the age of 25, a disgraced, despondent, and suicidal Napoleon Bonaparte (1799-1813) had been expelled from the army. One year later, he was the youngest general in France, and was winning victories with ragged troops who were at the point of starvation. In this exceptional biography, John Gibson Lockhart examines the life and career of the man who became France's foremost military leader and, in the process, gained the love of his people.
