The Region stretches on the buttress of a great Alpine arc: Maritime, Cotian, Graian, Pennine Alps and a little part of the Lepontine Alps. It includes two large hilly areas, the Langhe and the Monferrato. The Po river has its source in Piedmont. The region is crossed by several Alpine streams flowing into the Po. Many Alpine lakes, with those of the morainic area of the Canavese, dot the region. In the eastern part, we find two bigger lakes: Lago Maggiore and Lago d'Orta.

Piedmont borders with France, Switzerland, and the Italian regions of Lombardy, Liguria, Emilia Romagna and Valle d'Aosta.

Sestriere is an alpine village in the Province of Turin. It is 17 km (11 miles) from the French border.
Sestriere is a popular skiing resort. Together with the villages of Claviere, Sauze d'Oulx, Cesana Torinese and San Sicario, and Montgenèvre in France, it makes up the Via Lattea [ Milky Way ] skiing area. Sestriere is also one of the few facilities where it is possible to ski at night on a floodlit run.

Whispering the words 'Italian lakes' evokes a reminder of romance and beauty, artists sketching luxuriant scenery, and snow capped peaks, forming a backdrop to verdant slopes merging with glistening blue waters. Palazzo Madama, on Turin's main square, is a classical building which once contained the original ancient Roman city walls. There is also an interesting collection of motoring memorabilia in the museum dell'Automobile which contains the famous Bugatti, Maseratis, Lancias, Fiat and additional foreign cars.
