 Ath  -  Land of Ath
Ath is known as the "City of Giants" after the "Ducasse" festivities which take place every year on the fourth weekend in August. Huge figures representing David and Goliath are paraded through the streets, and Goliath's wedding and his famous fight with David are re-enacted.
 Charleroi  -  Municipality of Charleroi
The municipality features an industrial area, iron and steel industry, glassmakings, chemicals, electrical engineerings. Charleroi is in the center of a vast coal basin, called Pays noir. Surrounding the town, there are still many slag heaps.

Located close to the French border, it is the centre of the Borinage district, the old coal mining centre of the country. Mons was the site of the first battle fought by the British Army in World War I. The British were forced to retreat and the town was occupied by the Germans, before being liberated by the Canadian Corps during the final days of the war.

Thuin is the location of the ASVi museum, specialising in the history the Belgian Vicinal tramway system. This includes a museum tramway that runs through the streets of the town.

This more than 2000 year old town likes to flatter itself with its origins which in turn led the town through very different eras : from a Gallic-Roman over a Frankish era (it became a royal town during the reign of Childeric and Clovis) to a French, English (it is the only Belgian town to have ever been under Henry VIII), Spanish, Dutch, French, (Louis XIV modelled the still existing urban structure), Austrian, French period again ( during the Revolution and the Empire), and then finally it became Dutch until the independence of Belgium.

 Notre-Dame in Tournai  -  UNESCO world heritage
The Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Tournai was built in the first half of the 12th century. It is especially distinguished by a Romanesque nave of extraordinary dimensions, a wealth of sculpture on its capitals and a transept topped by five towers, all precursors of the Gothic style. The choir, rebuilt in the 13th century, is in the pure Gothic style.
