Maca refers to the statue of the small boy who tries to climb the wall of the city hall. Tradition holds that touching the Maca's buttocks brings a year of luck. Walibi Belgium, a popular amusement park, is located in Wavre.

Villers-la-Ville is vooral bekend vanwege de indrukwekkende ruïnes van de Abdij van Villers [ voormalige cisterciënzerabdij ]. In 1146 in opdracht van Sint Bernardus gesticht als dochterabdij van Clairvaux.

Waterloo, the "morne plaine" of Victor Hugo, owes its fame to the Duke of Wellington. At his headquarters, there he drafted the message announcing the defeat of Napoleon after the battle of Mont-Saint-Jean or the "Belle Alliance". Although the fighting mostly took place in Braine-l'Alleud and the surrounding areas, history commemorates it under the name of the "Battle of Waterloo" with its monument, the "Butte du Lion" (the Lion's Mound).

  Abdij van Villers
Thirty miles south of Brussels, in the depths of a valley surrounded by forests and meadows, lies the Abbey of Villers-la-Ville. Its ruins, which are protected and classified as exceptional Walloon heritage, are among the finest architectural sites in Europe.
 The Cistercian Abbey of Villers was founded in the 12th century, under the impetus of Saint Bernard. It invites you to more than 850 years history and daily life of the monks to explore by means of a map or a tour.

  Castle   -   Chateau de la Hulpe
The Domaine de La Hulpe Solvay spanning 227 acres of greenery, woods and ponds, is bordered in its northern and western borders by the Zonienwoud and south by Nysdam Nature Reserve, the largest of Walloon Brabant.
Almost all types of vegetation and natural environments in the region are represented. Both place of refuge, a site of rest, feeding, breeding, nesting and staging area for birds, Domaine Solvay is ideal for small and large mammals.

The retention of this valuable but narrow strip of wet meadows, large sedge vegetation, ponds and alder forests is a difficult task in this densely populated area.
Furthermore, a dispute between environmental groups and government that the area is to be used in the fight against floods.
