Wadden Island Texel.

At 25 kilometres long and 8 kilometres wide, Texel is the largest and most multifaceted of the Wadden Islands. A holiday on Texel will be full of variation. There is a huge diversity of landscapes: polders, dunes, woodlands, moorland, salt marshes, mud flats, beach and villages. Here you can walk, cycle, take part in watersports, eat well, shop, visit museums and enjoy over 30 kilometres of beach.   De Cocksdorp
De Cocksdorp in the north is Texel's youngest village. The village came about in 1835 near the small harbour, which was situated where the Roggesloot flowed into the Eierlandse Gat. The village was initially called Nieuwdorp, but was named after N.J. de Cock after only a few months.
De Cock was an Antwerp shipowner who fled to Rotterdam during the Belgian uprising (1830 - 1839), and founded the "Society of Ownership of Eierland" with others.
