The Peloponnese constitutes the southernmost part of mainland Greece. It has two land connections with the rest of Greece, a natural one at the Isthmus of Corinth and an artificial one in the shape of the Rio-Antirio bridge.

Two groups of islands lie off the Peloponnesan coast: the Argo-Saronic Islands to the east, and the Ionian Islands to the west. The island of Kythira, off the Epidaurus peninsula to the south of the Peloponnesos, is considered to be part of the Ionian Islands.

  Gytheio
Gytheio used to be an important port for many centuries until it was destroyed by an earthquake. Now it is the largest and most important town in Mani.

Nafplion enjoys a very sunny and mild climate, even by Greek standards. Consequently it has become a popular day- or weekend road trip destination for Athenians in wintertime.
The town was the capital of Greece from 1829 to 1834 and is the place where Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of the modern Greek state, was assassinated.

The city of Sparta lies at the southern end of the central Laconian plain, on the right bank of the river Evrotas. The prefecture of Arcadia has a skiing resort on Mount Maenalus, the Mainalon, about 20 km NW of Tripoli. The other mountains include the Parnon in the southeast, the Artemisio, the Saita, the Skiathio, the Lykaia and Tsiberou.
