Energia - Russia
S.P.Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia is a leader in the Russian rocket and space industry.
Established in 1946, it became a pioneer practically in all areas of rocket and space technology. Today, it is
the Prime Contractor for manned space stations, manned spacecraft and space systems built on their basis.
Space Adventures
o Journey to the Edge of Space to capture your own view Rocket to an altitude of 25km, above 99% of the Earth's atmosphere, in the fastest and highest flying jet in the
Russian Air Force: L-39 'Albatros', MiG-21 'Fishlbed', MiG-23 'Flogger', MiG-29 'Fulcrum' and Su-30 'Flanker' [ counterpart to the American F-15 "Eagle ]
o Zero Gravity Adventure in Russia Now, zero-gravity training is available to you. Weightlessness is achieved by having an aircraft -- in our
case a Russian Ilyushin-76 -- start from level flight, and pitch up to approximately 45 degrees nose-high and
wings-level. As the plane flies upward, it accelerates itself and everyone inside. Then, the engines are
powered back and the airplane glides over the top of the arch with just enough power (jet thrust) to
overcome air friction and drag. Everyone inside the airplane then experiences the sensation of "free-fall" o Suborbital Space Flight
Space Adventures will make sub-orbital space flight possible by collaborating with several independent
corporations who are each developing their own version of a Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV). We anticipate
space tourism flights aboard these RLVs to begin within the 2003-2005 timeframe. All Space Adventures sub
-orbital flights will be preceded by a detailed four-day flight preparation and training program. This highly
focused and inspiring pre-flight program will familiarize you with the RLV flight program, critical vehicle
systems, flight operations, zero-gravity training, in-flight gravity loads, and space flight safety procedures. o Orbital Space Flight
Space Adventures has worked since August 1999 with the Russian Space Agency, RSC Energia, and the
Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center to develop private flights to the ISS. In April 2001 and 2002, Space
Adventures assisted with and facilitated the flight of the world's first space tourists, Dennis Tito and Mark
Shuttleworth. If you have the determination, resources, and can meet the requirements you may be invited to join the elite group of space explorers.
Space Island Group
Space Island Group is a leader in the commercialization of space with plans to design, build and operate
commercial space transportation systems and destinations dedicated to commerce, research, satellite repair, manufacturing and tourism.

Cosmic Company: The Search for Life in the Universe - Seth Shostak, Alexandra Barnett
Is there life elsewhere in the universe? What might it be like and how will we ever find it? Cosmic Company
ponders the possibility of aliens visiting the Earth, as well as what it would mean if we were to pick up a
signal from the cosmos that would prove we're neither alone, nor the smartest creatures in creation. It
explains why scientists think life might be plentiful on other worlds, and how we might get in touch. Containing
a thorough overview of the science and technology behind the search for life, the book highlights current and
future space missions and research, which are aiming to answer some of the greatest questions mankind
has ever asked. This easy-to-read book, by two experienced writers of popular astronomy, is suitable for anyone who ever wondered whether there's anybody out there...

The Space Race - Deborah Cadbury
From the author of Seven Wonders of the Industrial World, another highly anticipated TV tie-in charting the
shocking but true story behind the space race - and the ruthless, brilliant scientists who fuelled it. The end of
the Cold War finally reveals a generation of secrets and cover-ups, bringing a historical opportunity: the
unmasking of the true heroes and villains behind the biggest race of mankind. This is one of the greatest
stories in world history, beginning in the bloody throes of the Second World War and spanning through to the
moon landings. With the two superpowers pitched against one another during the Cold War, this is the race to
create the most powerful rocket and dominate the world, culminating in 1969's 'giant leap for mankind'. The
most pioneering and high-risk experiments ever undertaken cost untold millions - and hundreds of lives as
mistakes were made, some too horrific to be made public. It is a tale that plays out against a backdrop of
communism and espionage. Buried within this multi-million-dollar battle between nations are the dramatic
accounts of the individuals whose passion to be the winner of this dream at any cost. With ex-Nazi Wernher
von Braun on the American side pitted against the enigmatic Sergei Korolev on the Soviet side, this revealing
new history shows the extent to which politics and personal ambition combined to create an explosive race for the glory of victory.

The Compact NASA Atlas of the Solar System - Ronald Greeley, Raymond Batson
The exploration of our solar system by spacecraft has been one of the greatest scientific achievements of
the twentieth century. The mapping of other worlds has resulted from numerous space missions by NASA, extending over many years. The data from these planetary missions have been synthesised by the US
Geological Survey to produce detailed maps. Every planet, moon, or small body investigated in NASA missions is discussed and where appropriate mapped. Geological maps, reference maps, shaded relief maps,
synthetic aperture radar mosaics and colour photomosaics marvellously present the features of planets and
their satellites. This is truly a 'road map' of our solar system. All maps are fully indexed. The gazetteer lists the
names of all features officially approved by the International Astronomical Union. The Compact NASA Atlas of the Solar System is the definitive reference atlas for planetary science.
