National Park
National Park De Hoge Veluwe National Park De Hoge Veluwe and the Kröller-Müller Museum offer a unique combination of nature, art and
architecture. This is the place to head for to enjoy peace and quiet and vast spaces in varied landscapes. Visitors will find a world famous art collection that includes works by Van Gogh, Seurat and Picasso in the
museum and the sculpture park surrounding it. The founders of this very special place were Anton Kröller and his wife Helene Kröller-Müller.
National Park De Hoge Veluwe is a nature reserve of some 5,500 hectares of woods, heaths, grassy planes and drifting sands. You can help yourself to a free white bicycle and go riding or walking round to your
heart's content. And likely during your trip you will encounter deer, mouflons and wild boar. Every season the park puts on a very different face.
National Park De Utrechtse Heuvelrug
The Utrechtse Heuvelrug is a wooded ridge (an Esker caused by the Ice Age) that runs from the Gooimeer at Huizen to the Grebbelberg at Rhenen. It is easily recognisable in the landscape from whichever way one
approaches. The highest point of the ridge lies in Amerongen: 69 metres above NAP (Normaal Amsterdams Peil). At the moment only that part south of Driebergen, an area of 6,000 hectares, has the status of National
Park. The National Park consists of hills and valleys on sandy ground. The gradual transition zone from the
ridge to the valley of Nederrijn is unique in the Netherlands. At the foot of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug lies the Stichtse Lustwarande which is a series of estates and country houses dating from the early 19th century.
The Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park has a lot to offer hikers and cyclists. Extensive woodlands, meadows,
heaths, inland dunes, barrows, castles, fens and breathtaking vistas over the riverland and the Gelderse Vallei. And if you're lucky you might even see the Pine Marten (Martes martes), woodpeckers (Picus) or even
deer.
National Park Veluwezoom
Just north of Arnhem lies one of the largest uninterrupted nature reserves in the Netherlands: the National Park Veluwezoom and Deelerwoud. This area covers around 6,000 hectares and still carries the marks of the
ice age. Characteristic features of this landscape are its elevated situation, hills that stretch into the distance
and a rich variety of woods, heaths and drifting sand areas. The southern end of the reserve is presided over by the imposing country estates that have been built there over time.
Monumental edifices, stately avenues and playful little brooks characterize the landscape. The central and northern parts of the area on the other hand are much wilder and more empty. Extensive forests and heaths
form the landscape here. Not only is the landscape itself very varied but it is also home to a diverse range of different plants and
animals including red deer, wild boar, badgers and reptiles. At the same time the area is an important nesting
site for many rare birds. The park provides excellent scope for walking and cycling trips: dozens of routes have been signposted.

Veluwe Valley - tourist abc, cities, events, hotels, campings
Throughout the season, you can go many ways into the Southwest Veluwe area and in the Veluwe valley. On this site, you can find all the information you need to enjoy yourself. Besides the lovely countryside with
its extensive woods, heather, and sand-drifts, there are also various amusement parks and interesting museums that invite you to visit this region. The Veluwe valley is completely different each season!
Barneveld
From times immemorial, the town of Barneveld played an important regional function in the Valley of Gelderland. As early as in the 12th century Barneveld was regarded as a considerable town and trade
centre. These days Barneveld is known worldwide for its chicken and egg. Museum enthusiasts will be satisfied completely with Barneveld's Old Handcrafts & Toys Museum, the Veluwe Museum Nairac, and the
Dutch Poultry Museum. In the summer months, old Veluwe markets and the annual Balloonfiesta attract the attention.
Bennekom Bennekom is a village completely enclosed by the woods of the Veluwe and the valley's farming grounds.
One of the prettiest parts of Bennekom is the beautifully allocated estate Hoekelum. The grounds are open to the public, except for the 17th century manor. Also situated in Bennekom are the National history Museum
Tute Nutura and the "Kijk en Luister" museum. During the annual Heather Week Bennekom forms the theatre for the traditional Brats Day.
Doorwerth The town of Doorwerth is named after its ancient castle, situated at the foot of the hills close to the Rhine
river. It is certainly worth a visit. The castle holds within its walls the castle museum, a wildlife museum and
the "museum Veluwezoom" which has a collection of paintings by the "Oosterbeekse school" of landscape painting.
Ede The town of Ede is known for being Holland's best game district. Excursions, starting at " Natuurcentrum
Veluwe", are made to the "wildkansel" and the beautiful scenic areas " Planken Wambuis" and " Eder Heide",
which are home for two flocks of sheep. Ede offers many ways to relax. The museum square, the best place for entertainment in Ede, collects all what's needed to come at ease in a relaxed way and the Historic Museum
Ede offers everything respecting local history. Besides all this, many activities are scheduled, like the Heather Week in august, the Shepherds Feasts, and Ede Dweil town.
Garderen Once a farmer village, Garderen has now become a popular holiday destination. Surrounded by forests, sand
-drifts and heather there is still a charming touch in Garderen. The Dutch Reformed church with its 14th
century tower and the 19th century flourmill " De Hoop" tower high above the village and used to function as
beacons for the fishermen sailing the "Zuiderzee". The Tourist Information Centre is situated in the mill itself,
while the miller on the upper floor is still frequently milling wheat. In July and August, thrilling folk tales are performed at the mill.
Harskamp Harskamp is known as a garrison-town. Many conscripts for the Dutch army have visited the town to receive
shooting instructions. But there is more to be seen in the village of 3.000 people. There are two musea at the Schietkamp: the Infantry Schietkamp en het Infantry museum.
The wildlife reserves of Loobos and Kootwijkerzand are within bicycle range. Tose interested in the arts can visit Galerie Zuid to see work of local and regional artists.
Heveadorp
Heveadorp is a former factory village, named from the Hevea rubber industry. The rubber factory is long gone, but the characteristic housing for the factory workers remains.
Next to the village is de Duno. From here you have an excellent view over the Rhine river and the Betuwe region. Also de Duno is known for the flowering rhodondendrons and azaleas in may.
Kootwijk
Kootwijk is one of the smallest villages in the Veluwe area. Most likely, it thanks its name to the many sheep's
pens that used to be here. The (Old) English word "cote" (Koot) for sheep's pen and "wick" (wijk) for area or
place. Kootwijkerzand, to the south of the village, is one of our country's still active sand-drifts.
Otterlo Otterlo forms the gateway to "National Park De Hoge Veluwe". This park is a unique blend of culture and
nature. Surrounded by 5500 hectares of woods, sand and heather you will find the "Kroller-Muller" museum,
"Museonder", the Sint Hubertus Hunting Lodge and the landscape & sculpture garden. Situated in the village of
Otterlo is the Dutch Tile Museum. Behind its doors is one of Holland's largest collections of wall tiles and tile
pictures. Visitors who wish to stay the night can choose for a hotel, guesthouse, Holiday Park, or a (farming) campsite.
Lunteren Lunteren is the geographical centre of our country. Secluded by forests, heather and sand-drifts Lunteren is
a popular destination for devotees to space and quietness. Camping accommodation, hotels, and catering give you a hospitable welcome. You will find the Veluwe authenticity here, meaning small farmhouses, flourmills,
the tiny railway station, and the Antiquities Room.
Oosterbeek
Oosterbeek is beautifully situated on the Rhine river. It is surrounded by ancient properties and houses, like
Hartenstein, de Hemelse Berg and de Bilderberg. While walking in the area, you will see age-old trees, stately
alleys, little rivers and beatiful views. In may, when the rhodondendrons are flowering, everything gets an extra dimension.
During the Battle of Arnhem in september 1944, Oosterbeek was the allied headquarters. Every year many war veterans return to commemorate the battle. On the first Saturday in september, thousands of people do
the Airborne Walk. The walk goes along the Airborne Museum Hartenstein, several war monuments and the oldest church in the Netherlands.
Renkum and Heelsum The villages of Renkum and Heelsum have grown together over the ages. Along the stream there used to be
paper mills. These mills have gone, but the paper industry remained. At the Parenco paper plant, seen from afar along the Rhine river, the paper for every Dutch newspaper is being made.
Nowadays, the beautiful nature around the Renkum valley invites you for long walks in its forests.
Scherpenzeel Scherpenzeel is the most westward town in the Veluwe area and offers its visitors an enjoyable centre, an
extraordinary city park, and beautiful estates. The estates Breeschoten and Berkhorst are lovely areas for walking.
Voorthuizen In the Valley of Gelderland, Voorthuizen is the tourist town par excellence. The various campsites and
recreation facilities are ready to serve one's customers every season. Devotees of aquatics can have great fun doing so at the recreational area Zeumeren and golf players can polish up their swing at the new public
golf-court. Furthermore, meadows, fields, and vast broad-leaved forests enclose Voorthuizen. The Tourist Information Centre (VVV) has selected special paths through this countryside.
Wageningen
Wageningen received city rights in the year 1263. Old houses, typical properties, and small friendly streets
define the scene. Inside museum "De Casteelse Poort" a lot of the towns' history can be found. Wageningen
is a university town with a student-like atmosphere that shows in its lively nightlife. Also, Wageningen is known for its important role during the Second World War. In May 1945, the German capitulation was signed
in hotel "De Wereld" In springtime, it's especially enjoyable down at the two botanical gardens in Wageningen. The "Wageningse Berg" offers a beautiful view of the river Rijn and its wetlands.
Wolfheze
Wolfheze is a small village in the woods. It is situated on the Arnhem-Utrecht railway line and has its own
railway station. At the end of the 19th century, painters from the "Oosterbeekse school" painted the varied
landscape around Wolfheze, including the "Wodan's Oaks", the thousand year old fir tree, the heatherfields and the streams. The paintings can be seen at Castle Doorwerth.
