terraces are lined with lemon groves, orange trees, grapevines and olive trees. The tourist vocation of the

Distinguished guests, such as Byron, Keats, Dickens, Wagner and Ibsen to mention the most famous, came in
search of sun and inspiration. Influenced over the centuries by various cultures, the Greeks gave Sorrento its urban layout, still clearly visible today.

Time Out Naples - Capri, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast
This stunning Mediterranean city is enjoying a new-found self-confidence. Recent years have seen a
dramatic reclamation of its heritage, as piazze that once functioned as car parks have been restored to their
original glory in a clean-up process that is almost complete. Naples today is once again recognisable as the
place that drew the Grand Tourists with its unique combination of outstanding beauty and overtones of
mythology. But the bustle, the street-life, the numerous cafes, bars and restaurants remain. The guide will
also take you beyond the city to explore the best of the Amalfi coast, the town of Sorrento, the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida and the ancient sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Sun-drenched Southern Italy has it all: rugged hinterlands, miraculously unspoilt islands, Byzantine churches,

Pompeii is a ruined Roman city near modern Naples. It was destroyed during a catastrophic eruption of the
volcano Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The volcano buried the city under many feet of ash and it was lost for 1,600 years before its accidental rediscovery. See also Azienda Autonoma di Cura Soggiorno e Turismo di Pompei.

   Ravello -  Ravello
Having sprung up probably in the 6th century, it was populated, round about the year one thousand, by a
group of nobles from the Maritime Republic of Amalfi who had rebelled against the authority of the Doge. The
rebels made a good choice when choosing the site in which to built their refuge: Ravello rises in an easily defendable position.

enhanced by a transparent sea, all of which provide modern bathing facilities. For visitors coming from the
direction of Castellammare, the beaches continue right up to Scrajo, a place famous for its healing sulphur
springs and popular beaches. These beaches are followed by enchanting stretches of free coastline, leading
towards Marina di Vico, which are harder to reach. After a stretch of open sea beneath the projecting Gothic
Cathedral, we find Marina di Aequa, with its tourist and bathing facilities, which ends at the natural boundary of the so-called "Calcare" beach.
