History of the Limousin
Histoire Limousin [ French language ]
According to Julius Caesar in the Gallic War, the current region was inhabited by the tribe Lemovices who
played a large role in the Gallic resistance. The capital of this tribe was the oppidum Villejoubert, located in the commune of Saint-Denis-des-Murs in Haute-Vienne.
Limoges was the most famous European center of vitreous enamel production in the 12th century, and
Limoges enamel was known as Opus de Limogia or Labor Limogiae. See History Limoges.

Culture of Limousin [ French language ]
Limoges is most famous for its fine porcelain, but the art-related history of Limoges began with champleve
enamel work in the 12th century, during which time boxes and other decorative items were exquisitely
crafted in intricate designs in enamel. This art form in Limoges developed into painted enamel and later into painted porcelain. See for more Wikipedia
Limoges porcelain Designates hard-paste porcelain produced by factories near the city of Limoges.
Although the Limousin is not known as one of the most religious of France, the tradition of pilgrimage and worship of saints is still very present in the traditional state.
Ostensions
The Ostensions are a popular and religious tradition, deeply rooted in the history of the Limousin, they take place in Limoges and in 18 communes in the Haute-Vienne, Creuse, Charente and Vienne.
