The Oviedo Cloth - Mark Guscin The Oviedo Cloth has been in its current home in the cathedral town of Oviedo, in northern Spain, since the
11th century. This in an original analysis of the Oviedo Cloth as an object of interest in its own right. Mark
Guscin examines the claims for the authenticity of the Cloth, both scientific and historical.;The closing chapter
examines current historiography in religious studies, and offers a critique of the methodologies applied by
those who attempt to separate the Jesus of faith from the Jesus of history. Guscin bases his argument on
historical evidence, concluding that tests performed on both the Cloth and the Shroud demonstrate that science does not contradict faith, but rather, confirms it.

Aviles - Port of Aviles
Back in the 12th century our port was known for its monopoly on the unloading of salt as a result of having
been granted a contract by the Castilian crown for alfolíes, or salt warehouses, given that salt was an
essential product of the time, the production of which was local at first, but which later needed to be brought
in from France, Portugal and Cadiz to meet the increasing demand. Likewise, the port was also renowned for its important traffic in Castilian wool destined for the European market.
Port traffic fell considerably between the 15th and 18th centuries, among other reasons, because of the worsening physical conditions at the port due to the build-up of sand.
