enhanced by a transparent sea, all of which provide modern bathing facilities. For visitors coming from the
direction of Castellammare, the beaches continue right up to Scrajo, a place famous for its healing sulphur

towards Marina di Vico, which are harder to reach. After a stretch of open sea beneath the projecting Gothic
Cathedral, we find Marina di Aequa, with its tourist and bathing facilities, which ends at the natural boundary of the so-called "Calcare" beach.

Historic Centre of Naples - World heritage
The greek city of Neapolis, as usual in the ancient greek towns, had developed around three straight streets
running parallel from East to the West (called "plateiai" by Greeks and "decumani" by Romans) and crossed by several secondary streets at right angles.
Described by UNESCO's Bureau du Patrimoine Mondial in its World Heritage List with the following motivation:
«Naples is one of the most ancient cities in Europe, whose contemporary urban fabric preserves the
elements of its long and eventful history. Its street pattern and sumptuous ancient buildings from different
ages give its historic centre an outstanding universal value which has had a profound influence in many parts
of Europe and beyond. It testifies to a remarkable exchange of knowledge in a particular period or in a
particular cultural area, on the development of architecture or technology, of monumental arts, of city planning
or landscape designing. It provides a remarkable example of a kind of construction or of architectural or landscape complex that illustrates a significant period in human history».
