In the northwest the region borders Abruzzo, in the west Latium, in the south Campania, in the southeast Apulia and in the northeast the Adriatic Sea.
A region of hills and mountains, facing the Adriatic Sea, north of the Gargano
promontory. It is a continuation of Abruzzo's landscape, and inn fact Abruzzo and Molise constituted a single administrative district until 1963. Among the southern regions, it is one of the richest
in waterways, which cross the land from the Apennine watershed to the Adriatic Sea. Other rivers, affluents of Volturno, flow into the Tyrrhenian Sea, after crossing the region of Campania.

The territory of Molise, bounded by Abruzzo at North, by Lazio at North-West, by Campania and Puglia at
South, became a Region in 1963, after being attached to Terra del Lavoro (province of Caserta), afterward to
Abruzzo and, lately to Capitanata (in present – day Puglia). Tha Matese massif, with the two thousand meters
- high Mount Miletto, is the most important chain, followed by the Mainarde chain. The territory is crossed by
five rivers (Biferno, Trigno, Fortore, Volturno and Sangro ). The three artificial basins used for the production of electric energy, have formed three lakes (Castel San Vincenzo, Guardalfiera, Occhito).

History of Italy - WikipediA
Italy's history is perhaps the most important one for the cultural and social development of the Mediterranean
area as a whole. The country has been host to important human activities in prehistoric times, and therefore
archaeological sites of note can be found in many regions: Latium and Tuscany, Umbria and Basilicata. After
Magna Graecia, the Etruscan civilisation and especially the Roman Empire that came to dominate this part of
the world for many centuries, came the medieval Humanism and the Renaissance that further helped to shape European philosophy and art.
