Riserva Naturale della Valle Cavanata - wetland
The Reserve is situated in the Municipality of Grado (loc. Fossalon), in the easternmost part of the "Laguna di
Grado", and it was in the past a fishing valley. The presence of several environments between the sea and
the mainland (lagoon, beach, wood, meadow, fishing valley, pond) makes it an ideal place for the stop and the nesting of several species of birds, while others simply spend the winter here
Riserva Naturale della Foce dell'Isonzo
The reserve includes the last tract, between Monfalcone and Grado, and the mouth of the river Isonzo, which is the second river of the region for its length (140 km. of which 99 in Slovenia).
The area is characterized by scenic marshy landscape and lagoons and hosts a rich flora and fauna; special
protection is afforded to the 1,300 hectares of the island of Cona. The shoals, the sand-banks and the marshes with reed thickets occupy a large area.
