To the South, the Mortainais area offers a tortured landscape, whereas in the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel, sea and land meet and stretch towards Mont Saint-Michel, the Mecca of international tourism.

Cherbourg  -  Ville de Cherbourg-Octeville  -  Stop in the country of sea and wind
Gateway to the American continent during the transatlantic epic times, Cherbourg-Octeville has always attracted the hugest liners, and still does: from the Titanic to the Queen Mary 2, not to mention the France and the Queen Elisabeth, they all stopped here once.
Naturally open to the sea, Cherbourg-Octeville has imposed itself as one of the very few ports able to organise large nautical events: the Mondial Assistance Challenge, the Cutty Sark, the Figaro's Solitary, and the Europe's Race…
Maritime town, Cherbourg-Octeville shelters under the lee of the biggest artificial roadstead in the world, which is an exceptional architectural achievement of the 19th century.
Let yourself be overtaken by the exuberant daily activity of its fishing port and marina, right in the heart of town; let yourself be guided along the made-up piers with their flood-lighting following the rhythm of tides, and appreciate the very special atmosphere of a town open to the sea.
Deauville  -  For a long time, it was said to be the 21st arrondissement of Paris

You can also make a virtual visit of our resort in the photo gallery and discover Deauville's storefronts. Happy surfing !
 Granville  -  Ville de Granville
 Honfleur  -  Tourist Office
The maritime city of Honfleur got her fame from her seamen. They were full of that spirit of adventure that made them set forth to explore the seven seas. And these great navigators will indeed defy the elements to sail as far as Brazil, Newfoundland or Canada. In 1608 in Honfleur, Samuel de Champlain will set up a whole campaign that will lead to the foundation of Quebec. Every year, many festivals and events keep the maritime tradition of Honfleur alive
Nobody like Eugène Boudin will grasp with more acuteness the ever-changing light of the estuary skies. Impressionnism is born. Honfleur becomes the place to be for many artists. Courbet, Monet, Turner will make Honfleur the inspired place she still is. Be it classical or contemporary, painting is a credit to Honfleur and her many art galeries.

Finally, you will discover the old village where a fortified church was built in the 19th century; it has become the landmark of this seaside area, and around it was built the village of Ouistreham, especially the "Grange aux Dîmes".
 Saint-Lô  -  Ville de Saint-Lo
In the Cotentin Peninsula, the département of the Manche is battered by winds and waves, often rewarded with sunny intervals breaking through!
This was the soil where the Celtic founding fathers set up Briovère, today the town of Saint-Lô perched on its rocky outcrop. With over 20,000 inhabitants, the 2nd town of the département after Cherbourg features a full range of local shops and a rich assortment of small- and medium-sized businesses, suited to the needs of the neighbouring rural communities.
 Valognes  -  Valognes ville d'art et d'histoire
Valognes, a small centre of art and history, lies at the heart of the Cotentin Peninsula, just a short distance from the port of Cherbourg and the D-Day landing beaches.

It is one hour from the car-ferry at Ouistreham and about one hour and a half from Cherbourg. You can also fly-drive from London Stanstead. It is easy to visit for a week-end and it is about three - quarters of an hour from the sea-side around Granville, about two hours from the Loire valley, home of Muscadet, Pouilly-Fume and Sancerre, and two and half hours by train to Paris and Disneyland Paris.

 Discover France  -  French Music
The earliest French influence on Western music is found in the plainsong of the Christian Church. It is believed that Gregorian chant as it is known today is an 8th- or 9th-century Gallican interpretation of Roman chant, but it is difficult to distinguish the Gallican ornamentation from its Roman basis. It has been suggested that the basic idea of the trope (an interpolation in a preexistent chant) is Gallican and that the surviving body of medieval tropes and sequences had a French influence ........
