Bourgas - Port of Burgas
Port of Bourgas is established pursuit to the Decree for Construction, signed by Prince Ferdinand I on 20
December 1894. The opening ceremony has been held on 18 May 1903 and since this moment the port is
considered as open for commercial shipping. Few years before, in 1899, the first Bulgarian port light-the Light of Bourgas, has been put on.

Develtum Archeological Reserve
The remains of the ancient city Develtum are located west of Burgas, near the village of Debelt. The colony
for veterans of Legio VIII Augusta, founded during the reigns of the Roman emperor Vespasian, is the only colony of free Roman citizens within present-day Bulgarian territory.
In 2010 the archaeological reserve was awarded with the European Heritage Label by the Bulgarian state.

History Burgas
The name of Burgas derives from the latin word "burgos", meaning a tower. Local legends speak of a roman travel post, which used to lie in the area of today's Burgas Port.
On the 6th of February 1878 Burgas was liberated from ottoman rule by a contingent lead by Colonel Lermontov, brother to the great Russian poet, Mikhail Lermontov.
