National Parks
Kakadu National Park
The name 'Kakadu' comes from an Aboriginal floodplain language called Gagudju which was one of the languages spoken in the north of the park at the beginning of the twentieth century.
Kakadu is a cultural landscape. It was shaped by the spiritual ancestors of Aboriginal people during the
Creation Time. These ancestors or 'first people' journeyed across the country creating landforms, plants,
animals and Bininj/Mungguy* (Aboriginal people). They brought with them laws to live by: ceremony, language
, kinship and ecological knowledge. They taught Bininj/ Mungguy how to live with the land and look after the country. Uluru National Park - Located 478km.south-west of Alice Springs
At its centre is the largest monolith in the world, Ayers Rock. Yulara Village serves as a touring centre for the
region. Spectacular and unique scenery with walks, the climb to the summit, and numerous species of flora and fauna.

Equivalent in size to France, Italy and Spain combined, it's not surprising the Northern Territory is blessed with an abundance of natural environments.
This is an environment that ebbs and flows with the seasons, of contrast and colour, where change is the
only constant. Of awe inspiring iconic wonders - the World Heritage National Parks of Kakadu and Uluru-Kata
Tjuta (Ayers Rock). Of flora and fauna as diverse as desert blooms are to lotus lilies and the fearsome saltwater crocodile is to the Brolga, the elegant dancing bird that is our emblem.
